Now that I've only posted news several times in a row, something "theoretical" is coming up again. Many have welcomed the fact, that I am giving very deep insights into my way of creating songs, so I will now describe how a song starts with me.
As already described in an older post (see link in the comment area), the days are fortunately long gone when I had to click through hundreds of sounds of my synthesizer in the hope of finally finding one that corresponds to my expectations. With the help of Reaktor and the construction of my own synth (ensemble), I can now adapt every sound that I have in my head to exactly what I want. But that doesn't mean that I start every song at 0 and start mixing simple sine waves to turn them into drum sounds.
When I have finished and saved a song, the next step is to save the same song under a new name, delete the music tracks and use the existing sounds to search for new melodies or rhythms. So i use, for example, a spherical sound of the last song, and play a few spontaneous melodies with it. Since this melody differs from the previous melody (and is probably also played on a different pitch), it is necessary to adapt this sound to the new melody. It can also be that this melody becomes more and more rhythmic, and I come to the realization that the melody probably sounds better with a short, less spherical sound - so I changed the sound accordingly. In this way, completely new sounds emerge from the old sounds that I hadn't expected before.
What is important in every creative process (regardless of whether it is music, literature, painting, etc.) is that you have fixed concepts and ideas in your head that help you not to lose track of the big picture, but at the same time are flexible enough, to breaking any rules that have proved to be a hindrance. This applies to both: sounds and melodies. For me only the unity of order and "chaos" (unpredictable) can achieve real creativity.
