It seems that my frequency with which I finish songs has normalized somewhat While working on Vibe of Scorn, I was amazed how I could finish new songs almost every two weeks, which I was not used to.
I guess the new song has probably the most complex drums I've made for Ice Ages - by complex I mean multi-layered. This time I played with different drum volumes instead of using fixed loudness levels for each beat (but as usual, these are details that most of you will probably not notice).
The reason for my creative faltering was that I couldn't find a suitable second part for my first part. Everything I tried just confused the song because I was fixated by the idea of making the second part even more complex. Finally I broke with this idea and decided, not to make a drastic change, but rather to let the song grow through a calm layer. From the rhythmically oriented first part, a part arose that reminded me a bit of "Oxygen" by Jean-Michel Jarre (please do not take my comparison too seriously, most of the people cannot understand;-)
