The only thing that's stopping me from finishing the album at the moment is the missing lyrics for song 6. But in order not to be unproductive during this time, I'm concentrating on improving the vocal line. I've probably already sung about 5 of each vocal-tracks for each song and selected the best attempts.
At the beginning, I tried to make the singing as "beautiful" as possible - so every note had a full sound. But over time I realized that this perfection had a disadvantage - the vocals just sounded boring and monotonous. So I started recording more vocal tracks, which I consciously sang in an expressive way. I then realized that it simply sounds better when individual notes stand out from the rest of the notes, creating a tonal variation and also underlining the rhythm and melody of the vocal track. In any case, I've never worked before on the vocal tracks in more detail than on this album.
I also realized that singing in Ice Ages is far more challenging than any of my other music projects. You might think that with the distortion and widening effects on the Ice Ages vocal track, singing isn't that important, but the opposite is the case. For example, with "Die Verbannten Kinder Evas" I only have to pay attention to the clarity of the singing, while with Summoning the precision of the melody is not so clearly audible. With Ice Ages I have to pay attention to conveying the melody well and at the same time To give tones the right sound. If that doesn't work, no amount of effects on the voice will fix it.
